SODUS POINT-- Reserve Sailors and Marines who are also members of the New York Naval Militia conduct sandbag operations at Sodus Point N.Y. on May 31 2017. Members of the New York National Guard and the New York Naval Militia which is also commanded by the Adjutant General of New York have produced more and 677000 sand bags to help contain the rising waters of Lake Ontario since directed to assist local officials on May 3 by New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. The New York Naval Militia is comprised of U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Reserve members who also volunteer to perform state duty when called. A small number of retired Navy and Marine veterns serve as state volunteers.
